What led you to become a Doula?: After the birth of my second child, I became very interested in supporting new families. The process of bringing home a new baby is one of life’s biggest transitions, and many of us struggle to feel supported during this important time. People often comment on my smile and friendly attitude, and my ability to stay calm in any situation.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: My favorite parenting website is kellymom.com. I appreciate the scientific nature of the information they present.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: What a beautiful time! I appreciate the joy that they are experiencing, but also understand the struggles that we all face in pregnancy and early motherhood.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift I can give a new mom is my complete focus and presence, a non-judgmental ear for listening, and recognition of the fact that she is doing an amazing job.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: My all-time favorite movie is “Love Actually.” I have a tradition of watching it at least once a year during the holiday season.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Travel has always been an important part of my life, and I have visited nearly 40 countries. My recent favorite vacations have been to national parks, and I am eager to visit more.
What is your favorite food?: Pizza!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I love spending extra time with my family. A good day off for me might include enjoying one of the many outdoor attractions in Saint Louis, pizza and a movie night, and a little time to read a book.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my husband and two young daughters.
