Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have spent a year in the neonatal intensive care unit and the postpartum floor working on lactation with new mothers. I also babysat all through out high school and college. I have lots of experience working with families and their new babies.
What led you to become a Doula?: I love the miracle of birth, the process of pregnancy, and the joy that a new baby brings to a family. I also know that a new addition to the family can be extremely stressful. I'm drawn to this work because its an opportunity to help families have a smooth transition as they expand their family.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have a servants heart. I am patient and generous with my time and knowledge. I genuinely find joy in helping other people, especially families and babies. I have been told that I bring a sense of “calmness, peace, and comfort” to families.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I enjoy pulling from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and my favorite book is called, "The Connected Child".
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: My first thought is, "I hope she is feeling ok", because I experienced so much sickness with my first. My second thought is, what an exciting time to be in. And my last thoughts are centered around the hope that she has all the support and resources she needs to be the mom she wants to be.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift I can give a new mom is strength and encouragement. I have lots of experience that can help reduce any fear she might be feeling.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: TV Show: Parenthood
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Colorado! I love to ski and hike.
What is your favorite food?: Ribs!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I love to be with my family. My husband and I spend a lot of time together and we enjoy cooking, hiking, biking and anything at the lake! At night you can find us enjoying a meal with family, watching our favorite show, and always giving each other a hard time.
Who lives in your house?: My husband, Kyle. My 120 pound Rottweiler. And very soon a sweet son! Sometimes we even have a foster child or two. Our house stays pretty busy!
