Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have a background in Community Health, a BA in Psychology, and a Certificate in Human Services. I completed an internship, plus additional volunteer work at a Women’s Clinic where I created curriculum and facilitated a group focused on building self-efficacy in the transition to parenthood.
What led you to become a Doula?: Many years ago now! I had to write a very long research paper on a healthcare system. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write about, so my professor suggested maternity care. This was pre-babies for me. It opened up this whole new world of childbirth and everything women’s bodies go through to push a tiny human out! I was in awe. After that point, I became very passionate about reducing fear around birth. I attended the births of family and friends, I had my own children. And eventually I decided I wanted to make something out of my love for supporting women and talking about this incredible transition called birth.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I think most often I hear that I am calm or calming, steady in chaos, easy to talk to, thoughtful, and passionate.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: It’s a long and glorious road, full of EVERY emotion, and oh boy will you feel it all! Take a big deep breath and know that you are exactly what your baby needs!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Space and time to process, to let it all out, and receive whatever that looks like with empathy, compassion, and validation.
