Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have had the honor of attending two births outside of my own. Each birth was different and allowed me to practice serving a mother in the hospital and in the home. It was clear that the key to walking through the most difficult parts of childbirth was to be surrounded by people you trust and can depend on. When a woman is at her most vulnerable in a most sacred moment, having support and guidance from someone is vital and can attribute greatly to a good experience - hard, yes, but good and memorable.

What led you to become a Doula?: As a child I always dreamed of being a mother. I loved playing with baby dolls and even recall watching a childbirth show on the tv with my mother! As soon as I was married I began to dream of becoming a mother and not too long later I was pregnant. Little did I know we would end up losing two babies to miscarriage before the dream came true. This experience was where the desire to serve other mothers began in me. After having my first child (a daughter), I struggled greatly postpartum. I didn't know much about birth, let alone, postpartum and I felt so overwhelmed by the emotions and new physical demand of being a mother. After a few months, I really found my confidence in motherhood and this again grew in me the desire to help other mothers. As I prepared to have my second child (a son), I spent a lot of time preparing to have a different experience as best I could. I am happy to say that I thoroughly enjoyed childbirth and postpartum the second time around and believe the support I had made most of the difference! Finally, what led me to move forward in becoming certified was having the amazing opportunity of supporting my little sister in her birth (alongside my older sister and mom) and witnessing how loving support can truly make a childbirth experience (no matter what the situation may be) be incredible!

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

I have been told that I am hospitable, meaning that I am easy to talk to, welcoming and make people feel that they are a friend from the start. I have also been thanked for my love for others’ children and intentional care for them. A friend shared, “You are confident and genuine and willing to step into uncomfortable spaces with people to show your love and support.” Quite frankly though, what matters the most to me is that Christ lives in me and therefore I can exude the fruits of the Spirit to others: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
