Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and I am innately drawn to jobs working with people. Besides customer service, I have loved working with adults with disabilities and as a 911 Dispatcher. With management experience, I offer attention to detail, growth and professionalism in all areas of doula work. I sought recovery from an eating disorder while entering my motherhood journey and also dealt with postpartum depression. So I am especially passionate about recovery, postpartum body image and mental health. I have founded and led a support group for Eating Disorder Recovery and another for Postpartum Wellness.

What led you to become a Doula?: Having my son in 2011 sparked my interest in birth work and opened my eyes to the importance of doula support. Motherhood is profound and I knew it was my calling to support families during this special transition. This is my livelihood and I am always striving to offer the best possible service, just as I would expect as a client.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

Calm confidence. Nonjudgmental. Friendly. Compassionate. Professional.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: There are fabulous moms blogs online, but Facebook offers so many options now, including our group called Pregnant in Omaha. I love referring to local groups and professionals.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I think she shows strength and beauty. I marvel at her journey. I wonder if she knows what a doula can offer her?

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Understanding by meeting her where she is. Confidence by reminding her she has great inner strength. Comfort by knowing I’m here when she needs me.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I Love Lucy has always been a favorite of mine. Friends is my go-to quotable show. As for movies, I’m a sucker for anything as long as there is popcorn.

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Anywhere new! I’m a tourist at heart, and I’ll take 1000 pictures to prove it.

What is your favorite food?: My husband is a chef and I’m a foodie so this is almost impossible. But anything vegetarian or vegan that is out of this world!

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I’m always up for a new family adventure but sometimes I just need a day to lounge and watch Netflix.

Who lives in your house?: My husband, Mike, our son and kitties.
