Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: My husband and I have 5 beautiful children; 1 son and 4 daughters. I wanted to be a mommy for as long as I can remember! I have completed Prodoula training. I breastfed our children for 2.5 years and I find it beneficial to volunteer at our Mercy hospital Milk Network lactation groups.
What led you to become a Doula?: I truly enjoyed our pregnancies and LOVE the labor & delivery process 🙂 (Some consider me crazy!!) I just really have a passion to help moms experience a positive birthing process. I want to support her in a way that she feels empowered and is able to embrace and enjoy that day that she meets her baby for the very first time!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Family-oriented, compassionate, sweet, patient, calm nature, dedicated, true, sincere, loves the Lord
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: My peers and I learn from each other in our "mom groups." However, I did utilize the book, "What to expect when you're expecting". I used the app called, "The Bump" when I was pregnant and early postpartum. I also thought it was very helpful to attend our hospital's Breastfeeding class prior to the birth of our babies. I enjoyed attending Mercy's Milk Network lactation group after baby arrived, on a weekly basis. And of course my daily devotional and the Holy Bible kept me "on track" spiritually.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Awww...so Sweet and so Blessed!! This is such a special time for them! It's like waiting for your most favorite Christmas gift!:)
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: My non-judgmental love, care and compassion. I want to help them to feel prepared as they patiently await the big "BIRTH DAY!" The gift of Calmness during labor is very important. I also want to give them a sense of security as they settle in together as a new family.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I don't care to watch TV. However, I do enjoy a good "Price Is Right" episode:) As a holiday tradition, our family watches Chevy Chase "Christmas Vacation!"
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Our annual RV trips as a family every summer. So relaxing and chill!
What is your favorite food?: My favorite food is a delicious hamburger grilled outside our home on a beautiful Iowa summer night!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I love just hanging out with my family. In the winter, we would be found playing board games and snacking on all sorts of food:) In the summer, we enjoy swimming in our pool during the day and smores by the bonfire at night, catching fireflies!
Who lives in your house?: My husband Joe and I with our 5 children Micah 17, Ellah 14, Lydiah 10, Josephynah 6, Veah 1 & our Goldendoodle, Remi 🙂
