Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have always had an interest in newborns and children and their health and well being. When I was a teenager I knew I wanted to become a nurse so after high school graduation, I went to nursing school. I have been a Licensed Practical Nurse for 35 years. I have worked in hospitals, nursing homes, rehab facilities, doctors offices and schools. I have also worked closely with special needs children in their home. I have also worked as a night nanny for the past 11 years and have enjoyed it thoroughly by coming into a home and helping a family adjust to life with a newborn.

What led you to become a Doula?: As a nurse , I have always been interested in birth work and helping families during the process of adjusting to life after their child has been born. Then that lead me to wanting to help families during the birth process as well.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

Friends and family have said that I am compassionate and caring. They always comment on how outgoing and how eager I am to help out in any situation. They have also said I am very flexible and easy to get along with.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I love reading books and "The Informative Parent" and "Breast feeding Made Simple" have become some of my favorite pregnancy/parenting resources. I also like to Google for information and read blogs.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I always smile and think how blessed they are to be caring for and providing for another human being. I also try to show compassion because some days are rough and they need support from others.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift I can give new parents as a birth worker is my time to provide emotional and physical support during this time of adjustment. This process might include listening, cleaning, feeding baby, playing with siblings, running errands, providing resources, cooking and much more!

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: My favorite tv show by far is THIS IS US.

What is your favorite place to vacation?: My favorite place to vacation is to the beach or to the mountains.

What is your favorite food?: My favorite food is Italian.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: My favorite way to spend a day off is to just relax and take some time for myself by getting a mani/pedi, a massage, having dinner with a friend, spending time with family and taking long baths!

Who lives in your house?: My husband and my adult son live with me in our house.
