Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I trained in 2017 as a Labor Doula and continued my education through workshops with Ina May Gaskin, Miscarriage, Stillbirth and Infant Loss Doula training, and a variety of childbirth education methods.
What led you to become a Doula?: I can remember as a young woman my mother being very interested in the biological aspects of the creation of humans. She would explain the hormones to me and draw diagrams of a uterus. Later in life, I met a Doula and couldn't shake the concept of work. I contacted her a few weeks after meeting her to learn more about how I could become a Doula.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
From a previous client: “You still to this day mean so much to us and are one of the reasons I decided to pursue Doula work! We actually joked about flying you out (overseas) for our second because we loved you so much!”
From an OBGYN: “We love having you in the OR during cesareans!”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: - Evidence Based Birth by Rebecca Dekker, PhD. - The Spiral Way, by Jessie Harold - Ina May Gaskin and The Farm Midwives - Birthing From Within, by Pam England
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: What an adventure they have found themselves on!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Space to be. Room to grow. Patience while they navigate through uncharted waters. A non-judgmental heart.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: The Office or The Lord of the Rings
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Jekyll Island, Georgia
What is your favorite food?: Yellow Curry
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Usually working outside on our 25 acre farm, gardening or making trails. I also enjoy a hot tub with a glass of Chardonnay. I am an artist, so I also spend quality time creating; calligraphy or painting.
Who lives in your house?: I live in a multi-generational home we built on 25 acres. On one side of our home is myself, my husband Caleb, and my dog and cat, Lucy and Ethel. On the other side of the home lives my in-laws Bill and Amy, along with their dog, Tucker! We also open our home to others, so sometimes others are living with us!
