Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Child, Youth, and Family Studies and minors in Sociology and Psychology. In my 10 years of experience as a nanny caring for newborns and children of all ages, I discovered my passion for supporting families in the postpartum period and maximizing the first years of development. I have over 6 years of experience caring for newborns and multiples and assisting with feeding, diapering, building healthy sleep habits, and much more. Through this experience, I have learned how to be better attuned to the needs of an infant and how to best support the parents in this new chapter of their lives.
What led you to become a Doula?: I originally was pursuing a career as a Midwife because I love building strong personal relationships and believe pregnancy is an amazing gift. I stumbled upon work as a Postpartum and Infant Care Doula and it was a perfect fit. I absolutely love that I get to support and build relationships with parents, but also work closely with infants and use my education to help them thrive.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Lauren is consistently reliable, fun, loving and hard working. She is always mentally and physically prepared each day she arrives in our home and is intrinsically motivated and is incredibly responsive to feedback. Each of the kids are very fond of her and we cannot imagine not having Lauren in our lives.”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: My favorite resource to recommend to new parents is the Peanut app!
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I am so excited for them to begin the new chapter of their lives and hope they have the support and attention they deserve!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Sleep!! As well as the assurance that they have someone to listen to them, provide nonjudgmental support, and help ease their stress.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: TV: Handmaid's Tale, Movie: The Ultimate Gift
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Colorado or of course anywhere with a beach!
What is your favorite food?: Greek
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: My favorite way to spend the day off is to spend time with my family and friends or to start a new art project. I also love being active and going on walks, playing sand volleyball or just enjoying a good meal with the people I love. Oh, and game nights!
Who lives in your house?: Just me! I live very close to my parents and my two brothers, 25 and 18 who I am very close with.
