Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: The number of moms who’ve come to me for advice and comfort over the past few years is endless. I’ve discovered so much about conversations and ideas when it comes to preparing and going through labor. My passion runs so deep. But, my background consists mainly of an enthrallment for everything birth and baby related. My professional resume is an unwritten chapter in my book of life as a doula, but the pages of what I learned at my training, business goals, and all the ways I know I can touch women and families getting ready to welcome a baby to their world are overflowing!
What led you to become a Doula?: My empathy towards pregnant moms and the journey of labor starting at a very young age and as I grew up and experienced my own labor and postpartum and all of the joys and discomforts of it all, I was undeniably drawn to the idea that we don’t have to do it all alone. That’s when I knew I was not only meant to be a doula, but I had in a sense already been a doula my entire life.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I hear this a lot… “I’m comfortable talking to you about this because I know you’re not going to judge me.” I take a lot of pride in that. The amount of options and decisions as a mom is literally endless and the ways to make it through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum look so different for everyone. I’m not here to tell moms that they’re right or wrong, I’m here to support them.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Personally, I love to read books. Mom groups on social media can be overpopulated, overwhelming and biased so I tend to gravitate towards one on one conversations with moms I trust or look up to and read critically acclaimed books!
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: It never gets old. I get excited every single time. Pregnancy and birth are SO FREAKING AMAZING to me. My eyes light up!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: As a non judgmental and non biased member of the birth team, I know I can give moms the opportunity to unpack their fears. That’s really what it’s all about for me because I believe in the fact that women already know how strong and capable they are, so my job is to empower them to realize that. My philosophy is that its not just about “getting through” labor, it’s about self discovery, self confidence, and the goal for families to look back on their birth with peace and joy!
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: The Office
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Disney World
What is your favorite food?: All the soups
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Pedicures for days!
Who lives in your house?: My husband Cody, our 5 year old border collie/corgi Miley, and our precious Cinco De Mayo baby Ty Mitchell!
