Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have supported children and families in various roles for over fifteen years and I am very passionate about helping others.
What led you to become a Doula?: During my first year as a new mother, I experienced postpartum depression, however it was not diagnosed until later. I struggled and suffered in silence and this has been part of my drive to want to help other mothers with the transition into motherhood.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I am known for being compassionate and understanding, and willing to help others in any way that I can. I am always willing to step in and lend a hand when I am interacting with mothers who have young babies, and I have often been told how grateful these women are that I offer help without thinking twice.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: parentsmatter.ca; babycentre.ca; canadianfamily.ca; canada.ca; The local Early Years Centres (play and learning group for parents and little ones) have many different resources posted.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: My first thought is “this journey can seem intense and overwhelming, but with the proper support it can be the best experience of your life!” I am driven to ask pregnant women or parents with new babies how they are feeling and if they are in need of help mentally/physically/emotionally.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: I believe the best gift for new parents is to let them know you are here to support them in any way they need. Knowing that someone is there to listen and lend a hand in any way can be very helpful especially if a parent is feeling lost or lonely.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I love reality shows that depict the lives of busy parents and their children. My favourite movies are The Pursuit of Happiness and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: My grandmother’s cottage
What is your favorite food?: Pasta & cheese sauce
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: When I have a day off, I love to spend it doing some self care. I love to read, meditate, do some yoga, work on a puzzle, or organize a space in my home
Who lives in your house?: Myself, my husband and my two beautiful children ages 3 and 7.
