Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I grew up caring for children and babies early in life. I have multiple nieces and nephews that I have supported.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have always had an interest but the birth of my niece and nephew inspired me to pursue supporting women through labor and delivery which I later learned was called a doula.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I recently had a client say to me “You don’t know how much I needed you. You give me the confidence to do this, and to trust my instincts.” It is by far the best compliment I have ever received. The recommendations I have received while compiling this packet have so much positivity and compassion behind them.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I LOVE Kellymom.com as a breastfeeding resource as well as a general parenting resource. Another app that I recommend often is The Wonder Weeks. It goes over developmental leaps and talks about what is happening with the infant and why they are having a rough time.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: My first thought is "Does she have a doula!?", which sometimes leads to cold chatting. I also wonder about her birth preferences or her parenting preferences.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift a birth worker could give a new mom is the confidence to continually educate herself and execute the parenting or birth style that works best for her and her family.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: My favorite movie is Dazed and Confused.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Anywhere with a nice beach and warm sun.
What is your favorite food?: Anything my mom cooks when I get the chance to visit- there's nothing better than the love she puts in her food.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Relaxing and catching up with friends, movies, tv, and making really yummy food.
Who lives in your house?: My husband Dave, my step kids Andrew and Sophia, and my three chihuahuas (Gizmo, Dexter, and Tink)
