Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have completed Postpartum Doula trainings through DONA and ProDoula Postpartum and Infant Care, as well as ProDoula Placenta Specialist training. I hold a BS in Psychology and am a Yoga Teacher and practitioner, trained through Neighborhood Yoga in 2008. Yoga enhances my birthwork as it is a practice of trust and a guide to uncovering both our fears and our “best selves”. Also, I'm a mama to 3 little ones, fully on the journey of learning and growing with them; They are some of my best teachers.
What led you to become a Doula?: After my first journey into motherhood in 2011, I found myself deeply empowered, but also alone and confused. I saw a huge lack in the way we treat pregnant and postpartum couples: all attention goes to the baby, but meanwhile both parents are having a major life transformation. I wanted to bridge this gap, and let newborn parents know that they are seen, too. I began supporting families to hold sacred this great transition through doula work, placenta encapsulation, and prenatal yoga.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Lis is one of the most amazing humans I have ever met. She was our Doula and encapsulated my placenta. There was hardly any turn around time for my placenta. There aren’t even words to describe how I feel about Lis. She is such a support throughout pregnancy and beyond. As a postpartum doula she really helped me emotionally. She has a way of connecting with others, making them feel loved and validated. She is also a wealth of knowledge when it comes to pregnancy and postpartum care. She is truly a treasure and I feel blessed to know her and have her as part of my pregnancy and motherhood story!” Quote from a previous client left on my Facebook page. Other feedback: “Her smile brightened the room” “I felt more trusting of my experience” “I was confident leaving my infant in her care” “You were so easy to reach and talk to during this transformative time”

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: That her whole world is changing. I think of the excitement, anxiety, love and pain all held within her, simultaneously, as she transforms into this new aspect of her being.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Confidence in herself. Also, Time and Space … be that away from the baby and home, or providing her with nurtured time and space at home as she integrates her new role as a mother into all her other roles as a woman.
