Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: As a certified yoga and meditation teacher I can assist the mom-to-be with a safe practice. Prenatal yoga can reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep and help the muscles used in childbirth. I have given support for three births and have experienced a variety of births myself. My first child was born via surprise c-section, I followed that with a vbac, regular hospital birth and finally a midwife assisted home birth.
What led you to become a Doula?: My own experiences, each birth so different, led me to want to be part of a birth plan for someone else. I believe my experiences have value and have helped shape me into a person able to give great support in many situations. Much like witnessing a wedding, a baby entering the world is such a pivotal moment in a family's life. Who wouldn't want to be there to support the parents through this change?
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
You are one of the kindest, sweetest spirits which translates into your teaching. I have long admired your trying of new things, your joy in the simple and awe in the majestic. You have been an inspiration to me and also an encouragement.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The Mindful Mom to be by Lori Bregman; Yoga for Pregnancy by Wendy Teasdill
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Excitement! New life! Whether her first or tenth, a new adventure awaits and I feel so much joy for her and the wee one.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: A non-judging ear and supportive arms. Sometimes just the reassurances that "she's got this" - that she is making the right choices for herself and the baby
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Funny Farm with Chevy Chase is good for a laugh and I watch it at least once a year. Even have my own "yellow dog", lol
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Having driven through and to the connected 48 states I must say I love the west the best. Plop me anywhere outside and I will be happy
What is your favorite food?: Chocolate - isn't everyone's? But a pepperoni and tomato pizza can make me pretty happy
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: In nature. Hiking or biking. Often using my top-less jeep to get me there and finding a nice spot for some asana and meditation.
Who lives in your house?: My nest is now empty - my birds all on their own, some with my grandchildren. That leaves my husband, me and our two senior lhasa apsos - Fibi & Brodi
