Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am the oldest of 6 children and I have 3 young children myself. I have been supporting others my whole life, so doula work comes naturally to me.
What led you to become a Doula?: Like many, I was drawn to birth work after my own birth experience did not go as I planned. Determined to have a better experience the next time, I read and learned everything that I possibly could about birth and babies. Now, I realize that all birth experiences are valid and know that I can confidently support others through any birth scenario!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
People often notice that I am extremely determined. When I decide to do something it gets done. I have also heard that I am highly empathetic and able to handle high-stress situations with tact and grace.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Other ProDoulas and Birth Without Fear. I also love The Leaky Boob for breastfeeding motivation.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I am always so excited for new and expecting parents!!! But I know this time can also be HARD. If I can see they are struggling, like the mom in the grocery store with the screaming baby and the messy toddler, I always think "I know how that feels..." Solidarity!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Peace of mind, confidence, time!
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Peeky Blinders
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Keuka Lake
What is your favorite food?: It changes a lot. Right now I LOVE crispy Brussels sprouts! Childhood me is cringing!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Nothing beats curling up with a good book and a little peace and quiet! But I also love spending time outside, going for walks in the woods with the kids, or relaxing on the beach.
Who lives in your house?: Myself, my husband, our 3 daughters, and our super fluffy Maine coon cat!
