Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have three children of my own, so I have personal experience with both medicated and non-medicated births, hospitals, midwives, breastfeeding, bottle feeding, babywearing, postpartum depression, and everything else that bringing home a newborn entails!
What led you to become a Doula?: I have always struggled with the postpartum period, feeling like there was not enough support provided relative to the amount that is received while pregnant, so I decided I wanted to help provide that support to other new mothers who might be struggling.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I am dependable, efficient, funny, and make an awesome cupcake!
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: My favorite resource during my last pregnancy was Two Week Wait, not because of the scientific information it provided, but because it connected me with other expecting moms. I found it very helpful to be able to share what I was experiencing with others who were going through the same thing. There are all sorts of great resources out there, but sometimes, just being able to talk to someone who can relate is all you really need!
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I feel happy and excited about the journey she’s on.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Sleep! The first few weeks at home with a newborn are HARD, but I’ve found that everything feels a lot worse than it really is when you’re sleep deprived. There’s nothing like a few hours of sleep to help change your perspective.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I have lots of favorites: Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Parenthood, Napoleon Dynamite, Juno, Hunger Games.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: My family loves to go on cruises! I also love Disneyland (perhaps even more than my kids).
What is your favorite food?: Mexican, Greek, cupcakes.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I love going to the movies, getting pedicures, and going out to eat.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my husband, Scott, our three kids—Ava, Pierce, and Blake, a dog, two cats, and six chickens!
