Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Throughout my life I have always held a position of support in some role. During college I was a resident assistant helping students in the dorms. I then went on to join the Army and achieve the rank of Captain where I supported my Soldiers and their families in many life situations including birth of a new child, loss of family member, and deployments. Now that my children are in school and active in sports, I have volunteered many times as the class or team mom supporting their teachers and coaches. I have the experience from having my own children, and have been trained in spinning babies techniques as well.
What led you to become a Doula?: I had 2 of my children with my husband deployed. Looking back, I realized how much a doula could have helped me to remain calm, relaxed, and support me. I wanted to be able to provide a service to the military community that I didn’t know about at the time, and wished I would have had.
