Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Mother of 3, Mothering Arts Graduate, Lifeways of North America Graduate
What led you to become a Doula?: Being a mom of 3 who moved several times during my birthing years, worried about if I would find other women to support me and walk with me during our postpartum time, we were always gifted one or two friends who stepped in! Knowing how necessary those friends were, inspired me to want to be that gift to other moms!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
You light up rooms. You’re generous and inspiring. I love the way you speak to your kids. Warm and caring. Steadfast. Consistent. Calming presence
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby and Childcare by Sally Fallon Morell and Thomas S. Cowan, Natural Mother magazine, Mothering Arts - Kerry Ingram, Lifeways Of North America, The work of Rudolf Steiner, International Chiropractic Pediatric Association
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I yearn and hope that their experience postpartum is joyful and gentle. Restful and romantic. My hope is that they are able to remain enveloped in the spiritual experience for as long as possible.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: A hand, a shoulder, a smile...nourishing food, a gentle touch, words of affirmation! (and of course do a load of laundry!)
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Fried Green Tomatoes and Hope Floats; The Office
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Victoria, British Columbia; The Finger Lakes, NY
What is your favorite food?: Soups and stews
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Our family loves outdoor adventures! We love exploring our State Parks!
Who lives in your house?: My amazing husband, three adventurous children, 1 dog, 1 cat and anyone else who walks through our door!
