Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Interestingly, my background as a radio personality has been a great benefit to my doula work! My radio career allowed me to become develop a comfortableness meeting and talking with all kinds of people from all walks of life. I began my doula/birth work while I was part of a morning radio show. My radio partners and I would often have conversations on the air about birth & babies. When I would meet listeners at events, it was very special to have women (but mostly men) coming up to me to share their birth stories. This has been such an asset to my work as I communicate and connect with growing families.
What led you to become a Doula?: After the birth of my second child using HypnoBirthing techniques, I began training for my new career in birth work. I became a Certified HypnoBirthing practitioner, then birth doula and later added postpartum care and sleep coaching.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
People say I make them feel comfortable, that I share knowledge in a NON-know-it- all sort of way. They say I’m relaxed, easy going, patient, funny…and my favorite… amazing : ) Thank, people!
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Lucie’s List is a great one and a fav of many of my clients!
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I hope they know people like me exist! I want them to know there is someone to turn to who can really help the whole birth & new baby time go much smoother.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Companionship and sleep
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: TV, Seinfeld and Yankee games. Movie, Big Fish
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Jamaica, or my town, Jupiter, FL
What is your favorite food?: Tacos! and anything with arugula
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Definitely in nature...the beach is pretty perfect for a day off.
Who lives in your house?: I’m out numbered by my kids and dog! 3 human children, one canine : ) I’m very used to a high level of ....’fun.’
