Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have worked extensively with women and families experiencing trauma for over five years. This knowledge and sensitivity training makes me both a compassionate and empathetic birth and postpartum doula with all clients. I also value gentle guidance and information sharing, which help families embrace the decisions that feel right for them.

What led you to become a Doula?: My journey into birth work was in part a result of becoming a mother myself. My first birth is something I would class as negative and very disempowering. Thankfully, I went on to have three more very positive birth experiences, one of which was supported by a birth doula! Once I started learning and researching pregnancy, birth and early parenting, I knew I had discovered something I wanted to be more involved in. My passion for birth and new families was met with my desire and experience to continue supporting parents and here I am!

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

That I am kind, reliable and a good listener. I lead my life with compassion and want those around me to feel that same way.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Evidence Based Birth, Kellymom, anything written by Ina May Gaskin

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: If I see a pregnant person- I hope they are enjoying their pregnancy. Sometimes pregnancy can be super challenging and not that "glowing" experience everyone likes to talk about. If I see someone with a brand new baby- "you forget how little brand new babies are!" Then I hope the new parent feels confident, strong and has the support they feel they need.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Listening and learning what a family's biggest needs are. The type of support I provide always looks different because no two families are exactly the same. Being able to adjust and provide the care parents need is so important.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Law & Order SVU, Game of Thrones, The Handmaid's Tale, Ray Donovan

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Amsterdam, Spain

What is your favorite food?: I can't choose! I love enjoying a good meal while celebrating.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: A relaxing day at home. Putting my feet up, watching my favourite television program with a cup of coffee and a dinner date out with my husband.

Who lives in your house?: My husband and our four children.
