Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have worked extensively with women and families experiencing trauma for over five years. This knowledge and sensitivity training makes me both a compassionate and empathetic Doula with all clients. I also value gentle guidance and information sharing, which help families embrace the birth experience that feels right for them
What led you to become a Doula?: I have had three very different birth experiences, both in and out of hospital. My first birth was very disempowering and left me filled with sadness and disappointment. When I started planning for my second labour, I knew I wanted more unbiased and compassionate care that I read a Doula could provide. My second birth with a Doula was nothing short of amazing and it is what really pushed me to join the community of Doulas that are providing families with the support that they need.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
That I am kind, respectful and a good listener. I lead my life with compassion and want those around me to feel that same way.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Evidence Based Birth, Spinning Babies, Kellymom, Gentle Birth.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: What a precious moment that is going to be in her life
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: For them to know that I am only a call, text or email away. I am supporting them through every step of their pregnancy.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Law & Order SVU, Game of Thrones, Shades of Blue, Ray Donovan
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Amsterdam
What is your favorite food?: Honestly? Any dessert!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: A relaxing day at home or a day trip with my family. Life can be busy and complicated. When I'm with my children I try to be as present as I can.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my husband and our three (soon to be four!) children.
