Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: In 2003, I became a Medical Assistant and worked at different hospitals and medical clinics in my hometown of Los Angeles, California. In 2013, I became a surrogate parent for a wonderful family which allowed me a front row seat to their journey of becoming first time parents. I have completed training with National Black Doula Association as a Birth Doula and Postpartum & Infant Care training with ProDoula. I am on the path of completing more training as a Childbirth Educator and Postpartum Placenta Encapsulation.
What led you to become a Doula?: At an early age, I had the opportunity to babysit for multiple families in my local community; I even helped a family friend through three births as a young teen. Over the years, I have felt the desire to help birthing parents and families be rewarded the opportunity to start their own families or expand. Being a support person to a new parent or a season parent, allows me the opportunity to coach them in areas they are not familiar with or need refreshers on.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have heard a lot of positive comments and reinforcement from others regarding my personality and work ethics. The common comments that I hear from people are “I am dedicated to those I work with and serve”, “I go above and beyond my role to insure that those I work with have resources, tools and the knowledge they need to succeed”, “I am an active listener and never use my own bias in situations”, “I am honest to a fault, and stand up for those in need.”
