Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: As the oldest of 4 daughters, I truly grew into the caretaker role organically. I've learned to read people and care for people from an early age and have always valued relationships. Genuinely caring for the well being of others has carried me into my profession and has shaped the way I work with my clients and families today.
What led you to become a Doula?: I strongly believe knowing that there is someone there to support your ideas and parenting style sets your family up for parenting success, whether this is your 1st or 4th baby! I also believe that there is always a way to grow personally and professionally and commit myself to continuous learning opportunities regularly.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Nakita is an absolute dream to work with and I can’t thank her enough for the experience. She assisted me with my first placenta encapsulation almost 2 years ago and again recently. I love that I was able to participate with both of the encapsulations. I highly recommend Wisconsin Family Doulas for placenta encapsulation. Thank you!
We were surprised to hear that we were expecting twins and I knew we were going to need help at home. As I was searching for a night nurse I stumbled upon Postpartum Doulas and instantly decided this was the best route for our family. Nakita was everything we could ever ask for. From 3:00 AM nursing struggles to helping with my 2 year old as he adjusted, she has helped with meals, laundry, and even just lifted us up in times of doubt.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Local professionals that are the leaders in their field.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: The cycle of life and all the beautiful lessons that go along with parenthood
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: A listening ear and encouraging words
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Any documentaries
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Anywhere warm, Wisconsin gets a bit cold
What is your favorite food?: My favorite food is sweet potatoes, because you can do so many things with them for any meal of the day!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: In my down time, I enjoy time spent with my family. Warm, sunny days playing outside with my 2 children while my husband fires up the grill is a favorite pass time. I also have a heart for leaving my imprint on the community and teach music to children in our area.
Who lives in your house?: I have been with my High School sweetheart since sophomore year. We recently got married in our backyard June 2016. We have 2 children. Our son Atikan Brooks and our daughter Leolene Jo. We also have a fur baby named Dayzee and three backyard chickens.
