Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: *
What led you to become a Doula?: After looking around at all my options of prenatal care I quickly decided that a midwifery was where I was meant to be. The love and care that I received was something I couldn't stop talking about. It created a fire in me that only grew, I spent my entire pregnancy gaining as much knowledge as I could about pregnancy and birth. I immediately wanted all women to have the same experience and needed to figure out how I could help women during this beautiful time in their lives. I knew being a doula was where I was meant to be. I love birth and supporting women during such a special and sacred time in life.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Some positive comments that people have given me are that I am a great listener and great at giving support and advice when wanted or needed. I’ve been thanked many times for being there for my pregnant friends when fear or doubt strikes them that they can’t have the birth they want or they can’t give birth birth because they’ve never done it before. Lastly, I have the calm, assertive personality that allows women to feel comfortable enough to let them help me during their pre-natal, laboring and postpartum trimesters.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Le Leche League: The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, Husband Coached Childbirth by Robert Bradley, M.D., The Bradley Method- Pregnancy and Birth Education Class, The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I immediately get excited, I loved being pregnant. If the woman is pregnant I think about that I hope she knows she has a voice that has a right to be heard during pregnancy, labor and postpartum. Secretly, I always wanted to go up and see how they are feeling, let them know that help is every where for them if needed and I hope that she feels comfortable enough to speak up when needing help. When I see women with a newborn I wonder about their birth experience and I hope that they have everything they need and want during their 4th trimester and as they grow into the wonderful mother they are meant to be.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: As a birth worker the best thing I can give a mom is a listening ear and be available to be there for her with whatever she needs from me.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I have many favorite movies, but Serendipity has to be my all time favorite next to the Harry Potter series. Both films are something that bring me so much joy and comfort in my life.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: My favorite place that I've vacationed is New York City. I loved being able to walk every where and eat all the good food.
What is your favorite food?: I love almost all food, but I especially love Japanese and Korean cuisine
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: My favorite way to spend a day off is to get out of the house and explore the world around us. I love taking my family out to explore new things and make new memories. Simple things like going to the zoo or more elaborate trips that need to be planned.
Who lives in your house?: My house is filled with love by my son and I.
