Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I worked with my dearest friends and cousins through their pregnancy and birth experience and absolutely loved doing it. That was the cue for me to pursue birth education. Plus I'm a mom myself.
What led you to become a Doula?: Although we have a wonderful family support system in India, the new mother goes through so much confusion and so many questions and doubts throughout the process. I want to play a part and help the women with her new role during and after pregnancy. So many of her pains and discomforts go undiscussed and unattended. I want to support these women and make a difference in nurturing their physical and emotional health.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Your problem solving abilities and resourcefulness is what makes you stand apart.; You don’t come across as a stranger as all, it seems like we’ve known you for years. We are so comfortable with you.; Your patience and support and positivity always helps us cross hurdles.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Every women and each child is different and I believe there cannot be a resource than can guide you.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I understand her anxiety and support her emotionally to have a healthy mind would be my first thought.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Emotional support to create healthy minds and healthy bonds between the baby and family.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: F.R.I.E.N.D.S., Big Bang Theory, Desperate Housewives, House, MD, Grey's Anatomy, That 70's Show
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Bali
What is your favorite food?: I love all cuisines.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Listening to music and a good book.
Who lives in your house?: My daughter, Mira and my husband Sivakumar.
