Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Motherhood rocked my world in a big way, pulling back the curtain on how crucial it is for parents to have support in those tender early weeks, months, and years. Sleeping and eating didn’t come easily to either of my two children as babies--tongue ties, breastfeeding challenges, fussiness. It was intense. Navigating these challenges introduced me to so many amazing resources—local care providers, websites, books and more. Through this journey I found my life’s work in nurturing new parents. I am also a Certified Lactation Counselor, and have found that this background enables me to help my clients navigate tricky feeding challenges with confidence. Before becoming a doula, I worked in nonprofit management for several years, and earned a Master of Public Policy. My experience in those worlds sparked a passion for better support systems for parents, like paid family leave. That spark continues to motivate me today. I also understand how unsettling the shift to parenthood can be for people who are extremely career-driven. I've been there! And I found my way.

What led you to become a Doula?: My postpartum experiences with both of my children were extremely difficult. My body did not heal quickly. I tried to do too much. And I struggled with undiagnosed postpartum anxiety, and found myself being hypervigilant about things like naps and feedings. With my first, I found it hard to even leave the house. Navigating all of that sparked my curiosity about all things pregnancy, birth and postpartum. When I was unexpectedly layoff when my youngest was 5 months old, I decided to pursue this passion professionally.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

Clients say:
Andrea: “Nicole was reassuring and validated that my feelings and experiences were “normal”, which helped me to grow in confidence as a new mom.”
Cait: “Nicole arrived into our world and immediately EVERYTHING felt so much lighter. She was a dream with our daughter Ella, and she somehow also always managed to make sure the house was tidy, the bed was made, the sheets were changed (!!!!!), and food was in front of my face. She refilled my water bottle. She held loving non-judgmental space for me when I cried about how overwhelming it all felt. She was the warmth and love our family needed in a very overwhelming time and I could not recommend her more highly. She is so incredibly gifted at this work and is, hands down, the best investment I’ve made all year. If you’re entering postpartum, do yourself a favor and don’t even try to do it without her. She will make it all 1000 times more easeful, spacious, and doable.”
