Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: As a stay at home mom for over 10 years, I understand the various demands of raising a family and running a household! My own experience of childbirth and the postpartum transition period provide me with experience to draw upon and anticipate and support clients. Most recently, I was trained in Postpartum and Infant Care by ProDoula this year.

What led you to become a Doula?: I have always been interested in working and helping people. After experiencing a challenging postpartum period personally, I discovered there is a dire need for new mothers to feel unconditionally supported in their transition to motherhood. I feel passionate that my mission is to help clients transition into parenthood smoothly and with an abundance of support!

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

People comment on my strong intuition, and that I am empathetic, thoughtful, and tender-hearted.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I can’t say that I have a favorite. I do really enjoy reading blogs about parents’ personal experiences and reflections on parenting.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: When I see a pregnant woman or someone with a newborn, it makes me smile. When I think about all the changes a woman goes through physically and emotionally to bring a life into this world, it is awe-inspiring. Additionally, knowing the unseen changes and adjustments a woman makes after having a baby, witnessing a newborn makes me hope the mother remembers to care for herself, just as much as she cares for her new baby.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift I can give new parents is an intangible. New parents have a lot on their mind...questions, concerns and a lot of uncertainty. Often times, they need someone to just let them air these things out and figure them out for themselves. They need a listening, non-judgmental, and objective ear, which can be hard to find.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: “This is Us” is my favorite TV show right now. But I’m always up for reruns of “Friends” and “Frazier”!

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Really anywhere where there is sand, sun, and an ocean works for me!

What is your favorite food?: Cheesecake...just about any kind!

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Having some quiet helps me to recharge; so a great day off involves some reading, gardening, and relaxing with my family and friends.

Who lives in your house?: I live with my college sweetheart husband of 16 years, my precocious 10 year old daughter, and rambunctious 7 year old son. And a tank full of sad looking fish!
