Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Having endured my own traumatic birth experience, severe PPD, breastfeeding struggles, and ultimately my daughter being diagnosed with a rare mast cell disorder allows me to approach birth and motherhood in an empathetic and non judgemental way. Fortunately, I have also experienced an extremely healing birth, planned gentle cesarean, and ideal breastfeeding relationship which only serves to broaden my understanding of my client’s experiences.
What led you to become a Doula?: After having a traumatic birth experience with my daughter, I realized that women deserve better. They deserve endless non judgemental support and encouragement. I have been so very fortunate to have an amazingly healing birth experience with a doula for my second child and to build a beautiful tribe of women around me for unconditional love and support. If I can assist other women in finding their support, I will have contributed in the most essential way.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
That I’m encouraging, supportive, and positive.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I truly believe that finding a like minded tribe can be the biggest source of information and support available. Beyond that, seek out support groups for new moms through your local hospitals, blessingway groups while pregnant, and stay away from the idea that there is a right or wrong way to parent; everyone is doing their best.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Empathy for the struggles and excitement for the beautiful highs that come along with the lows
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Non judgemental support, guidance, and maybe a meal ????
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Pride and Predjudice
What is your favorite place to vacation?: The beach!
What is your favorite food?: All the carbs
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Hanging out at the beach with my family, a good book, and some delicious libations.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my wonderful husband, Ryan and 2 beautiful children. My daughter Mickey, 5 and my son, Hudson, 2. We also have 2 big doggos, Nutmeg and Poppy Seed, and our cat, Taco.
