Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been working in healthcare for over a decade, the majority of my career has been working in women's/womxn's health and childcare. I have been a certified Usui Reiki practitioner and energy healer for the last 5 years- becoming certified as a Teacher in 2016 and a Master Practitioner in 2017. I've always been interested in the magic of pregnancy and birth, and this has guided me towards being a campaigner for all women/womxn and their right to a happy, and healthy birth and postpartum experience!
What led you to become a Doula?: I am the 2nd oldest child in my family of many children. I have acted as the "unofficial" labor and postpartum doula for the last three of my Mothers pregnancy's. I grew up fascinated with the mystery of birth and the work behind it, and this curiosity took me further into a career of working with women/womxn and children.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
My whole life I have been told that I’m very sweet and kind hearted. However, I’d like to share a review someone left me on my personal page. It really touched my heart that I can make this kind of a difference.
“Rae is an an amazing, passionate and kind individual in general. You can tell she has a caring soul and is truly interested in helping people. As a healer she is extremely empathetic and compassionate about her work. We are all on an intense, however, beautiful journey and if your looking for someone to help you along -no matter the path, I would highly recommend contacting Rae!”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: ANY & ALL OTHER MAGNIFICENT DOULAS AND MOTHERS! The birth community is so full of enlightening and educational information, it by far is my favorite resource.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Admiration! Congratulations! Pride! Happiness! I also feel extremely humbled and honored, especially when I see a brand new father!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The space to be that new Mother or Father. I think there's something to be said about being a strong, but attentive support. Allowing them to step into that role, and supporting them throughout their transition to Parenthood. Helping them heal afterwards is also one of the best gifts I could give.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Fantastic Mr Fox! Directed by Wes Anderson
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Iceland! The views are spectacular!
What is your favorite food?: Pizza and Pasta!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Curled up in a big comfy chair reading one of my favorite novels.
Who lives in your house?: My partner and I, and our furry family!
