Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: While it may seem odd to some, my background began in business and event planning. In my mind, that has led to very good relationships with our clients. I know the ins and outs of how to create a plan that's right for the client and I know how crucial both excellent customer service and commitment are.
What led you to become a Doula?: I've always had an interest in pregnancy and birth. At the last minute I decided to change from the medical route to the business side and then once we got pregnant with our first, I knew I was meant to be doing something else. I wanted to help people feel supported in the way that I did and quickly made that a reality!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
People tell me I am very good in stressful situations and know how to work the room. I work well with people. I’ve had a client (or ten) tell me I have a very calming voice and magic hands (ha!) but I really think that comes down to knowing what she needs before she does.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I love the Birth Without Fear and Scary Mommy Blogs. I love the honesty in both places, even if I don't always agree with the blogger. I often turn to the Lamaze website for pregnancy and birth information and more than anything, I frequent the various mom groups in our town - both in person and through social media.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: First and foremost, I like to open conversation and find out where she in pregnancy and or new mommy-hood and how she's feeling both physically and emotionally. I like to find out how I can help and what's important to her.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Time and a listening ear.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Friends
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Anywhere ... I like to travel.
What is your favorite food?: Spinach and Artichoke Dip
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Napping and spending time with family.
Who lives in your house?: My amazing husband Andy and our two kiddos Ava and Jason.
