Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I'm a mother of two grown children. My daughter was born via emergency C-section, three years later my son was born via VBAC. I have many years of caring for infants and children - for friends, family and a daycare.
What led you to become a Doula?: I love babies and helping people. I supported a friend through her pregnancy and the birth. That beautiful experience sparked an interest and passion to support other women and their families. Life with a newborn has its challenges. Not everyone has someone to help them at home after the birth. I was fortunate to have my mom's help when my babies were born. I want to be able to provide that same loving support.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
People tell me I’m caring, compassionate, and creative. “She’s so thoughtful”, “helpful and organized”, “always prepared”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: My favorite resources are parents themselves. I feel you can learn a great deal from listening to parents, of all ages, tell about what works or worked best for them.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I want to ask her if she has ever heard of a Doula. It warms my heart to see pregnant woman or anyone with a new baby. It reminds me of my own pregnancies and the excitement I felt as I carried my children. I always want to ask if I can hold the baby.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Sleep, moments of rest or time to themselves, snacks or meals
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Fixer Upper, anything on HGTV
What is your favorite place to vacation?: A cabin in the mountains
What is your favorite food?: Salsa and chips
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Being creative with crafts, gardening, flowers and/or food
Who lives in your house?: My loving husband, Jim. Our "Shorkie" named Lily, and our large cat, Sarge.
