Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have trained with DONA international, CAPPA and ProDoula to be the best postpartum and labor doula I can be. I have been blessed with the life changing, most rewarding experience in life of loving and raising two children. I am a certified yoga teacher, with additional certifications in prenatal, yin, restorative and kids yoga.
What led you to become a Doula?: My first grandchild. My son and wife live many States away and trying to find the best way of support from a far distance has brought me to the doula service. The more research I have done, the more I understood how important doulas are. I wished I had a doula when I gave birth and the immediate postpartum period. Since I couldn't go back in time, I could look to the future and help women during their journeys. I know that everything and everyone comes to your life at just the right time. For me, being a doula was one of these moments, the perfect match exactly when I had the time to study, learn, give and support. With my existing yoga teaching experience, an empty nesting mom existence, I invested all my time and passion in childbirth, postpartum, prenatal yoga studies to become the best doula version of myself I could possibly be.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
My yoga students have commented lots of time that they appreciate the safe, un-bias environment I am able to create for them. They are able to let go and feel refreshed after class.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Evidencebirth.org, Acog.org, Penny Simkin's books
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Awwww followed by a smile and warm feeling at my heart center. No thoughts, all feelings at first, thoughts may or may not come later depending on the relationship to the person.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Besides the needed education, compassion, time to listen, a safe place for mom, non-judgmental support. Help mom to find her own power within to speak up and voice her needs and wishes. Find her inner animal and learn to trust her body during child birth.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Mamma Mia
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Italy
What is your favorite food?: Everything Pasta
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Riding my rollerblades or bicycle, doing yoga, going to the beach, hiking, spending time and catching up with my friends, reading a book, eating out. Live life to the fullest.
Who lives in your house?: Permanently, my husband, our very spoiled puppy and our 20 year old cat. Not so permanently, our doors are always open to children and the best grandchild - sometimes shorter, sometimes longer stays. Not so permanently, but very often, friends and family from around the world.
