Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I became a mother young at 19 years old. I began reading parenting books, and trying to get my hands on just about anything that would prepare me for the journey I was about to embark on. I attended parenting classes and breastfeeding classes, anything to gain more knowledge! Today, I am a mother of 3 beautiful children, each delivered naturally with such a different experience during pregnancy, bedrest, delivery, and breastfeeding. My husband and I have unfortunately experienced a miscarriage in the past, the baby we lost would have been due the day we found out we were pregnant for our son. I come with heart to heart personal experience, support, knowledge, care, compassion, understanding of many different situations, and postpartum training.
What led you to become a Doula?: Personal experience, being a mother and friend (and maybe a big push from my older sister) led me into realizing that being a doula is my passion. My first pregnancy was emotionally challenging. I was scared of messing up as a parent, I had very little to no family support, and only 1 or 2 true people to lean on. My second pregnancy was more emotionally and physically challenging than my first but in a different way. With a separated symphysis accompanied by morning, noon, and night sickness, I had the support of my sister (also a postpartum doula) which helped me in some pretty amazing ways, the challenges came in the pregnancy itself this time around. My third pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage, which as most can imagine was more devastating than words could explain, and during this I had solely my husband to turn to. Having two children already, mourning our loss was something that came late at night. Then my 4th pregnancy was here. With my husband and in-laws as my support system, we delivered our youngest son. There are many more experiences on many different levels that brought me to this point. Every single experience I have had, points to here, and now. It has led me to the point in my life where I know I am meant to be and that is helping other mothers overcome any fear, any challenge, and give my expertise, my support, companionship, my time and knowledge as a postpartum doula.
