Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: As I continue to work as a Crisis Social Worker for my community behavioral health and addictions agency, I believe my experience enhances my ability to genuinely empower women and families during this time in their life where they are welcoming changes that are simultaneously amazing and hard.
What led you to become a Doula?: My polar opposite birth experiences with my two sons, working with many friends that are pregnant and breastfeeding, and my own journey working through emotions that come throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum time.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Sarah is such an inspiration. She’s an amazing spiritual rock and is the only one I would want by my side for an incredible and empowering birthing experience.” ~ Anca Q.
“Sarah [will be your perfect Doula because she] will listen to understand your preferences and greatest concerns from your perspective and assertively advocate for you and your baby. Just as important, you will find in Sarah a warmth and presence difficult to come by these days. When she is by your side, you will know that all her attention is focused solely on you.” ~ Juliana F.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Right now, I am enthralled with The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin, I am both learning so much and being confirmed in many ways with things that were real to me and to so many other women I know. I look forward to and am ever eager to increase my go-to websites and books for resources.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: How amazing and brave she is; how beautiful she is for bringing new life into the world; how I hope she has support and encouragement.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: I will give the gift of non-judgmental, unconditional support to each new mom I meet, embracing their desires and needs for a successful birthing journey.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I love a good Frasier or a Friends episode for a laugh but I totally dig NCIS, Madame Secretary and most other shows in this category.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Vitamin SEA!
What is your favorite food?: Bring on the cookie dough, pizza and salads, all things salad!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Drinking coffee in a clean home. Shopping with friends.
Who lives in your house?: The hubs and me along with our sweet, logical almost 5 year old son and our loving, imaginative 3 year old son. We also have a cute, loud little doggie.
