Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have hands-on experience with kids of all ages, from infants to adolescents, and know that it can be challenging to become an older sibling. I also worked on a professor-led research team focused on studying family communication. This has helped prepare me to serve family members of all ages and personality styles.

What led you to become a Doula?: I have always been fascinated by the amazing things the body can do, so I studied human physiology in school. Birth work allows me to use that background in a warmer and more interactional way to support parents.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

When in a stressful situation, I think quickly on my feet and can come up with creative solutions. I enjoy connecting with people and listening as they unpack new or difficult experiences.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The Infant Risk app and website are great for parents who are curious about how medications impact the baby during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: A round, pregnant belly is one of the most beautiful things to me. More than that, I love the look in the eyes of a new parent when they gaze at their baby.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The thing I would want the most as a parent is the reassurance that I am doing what's best for my family. As a birth worker, I can help parents feel more confident in the decisions they make by providing them with current and evidence-based information and options, so parents are educated and feel supported in their choices.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I love House MD; I've seen every episode.

What is your favorite place to vacation?: I enjoy any place I can relax and get away from my usual schedule.

What is your favorite food?: More than anything, I can't get enough of salty snack food: popcorn, cheese and crackers, or mixed nuts.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I enjoy long walks and exploring new places whether it be an urban playground, the mountains, or the sea. And, of course, great food makes any day better!

Who lives in your house?: I live with my dear husband.
