Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: First & foremost I'm a mother. I have seen both positive & beautiful environments & what it does to a woman during her pregnancy & delivery experience. With that I have seen negativity & how that can traumatically affect a woman during her pregnancy & delivery. I have conceived a child naturally. I have conceived a child with medical intervention (IVF). I have given birth naturally & I have given birth via caesarean. I have lost babies in my womb. I have been a working mother & a stay at home mother. I have lived near family raising a son & I have lived away from family raising two sons. These different versions of motherhood has allowed me to be a source of support & encouragement to a variety of women no matter their situation.
What led you to become a Doula?: While in the trenches of infertility trying to conceive my second son, I became obsessed with the woman's body & the power it holds, but mainly the power the woman's body holds as it creates & brings a new life into the world. To see women have all different experiences no matter their circumstances & how having an emotional support system is vital to begin her motherhood & postpartum journey.
