Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Previous certification in birth-three years (with NAEYC), four children, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one years’ experience working with military families.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have worked with infants, children, and families for over 25 years. When my daughter-in-law became a birth doula, she encouraged me to become a postpartum doula.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have been called “Baby Whisperer” as well as being told I’m very patient and tolerant.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Bloom Spokane, and some books: Mothering the New Mother, Your Amazing Newborn, just to name a couple.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I just smile and think to myself, “what a blessing.”
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: A hug, encouraging words, and above all—support.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Criminal Minds, but only when my husband is home; I get scared by some of the creepy stuff.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Wherever my children are: Idaho, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and/or Western Washington. Of course, also Hawaii.
What is your favorite food?: Salad in a jar with poppy seed dressing—so yummy!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: On a date with my husband at one of the local wineries that has weekend concerts.
Who lives in your house?: My husband, my father-in-law, myself, and our Great Pyrenees, Arielle.
