Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Well I am a mom of 4 and before that a big sister. Now I am trained certified postpartum doula and infant specialist. I will continue to learn and add more specialize skills.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have naturally always been drawn to help women and mothers, however my own birth experiences pushed my take my natural talents and love to a professional level.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
People state that I have a positive energy about myself. They state that I am a “spiritual” guide to them and I am able to bring them to a place of understanding about areas that they may have felt confused about. They state that I “live” what I preach but I never appear as if I am judging them by their own personal choices. They say I have a way of understanding about life that helps them want to learn more about the balance of nature and spirituality. I am also told that I am an atmosphere changer because the environment is pleasant when I am around, and that I have a nurturing soul who will stand and fight for what I believe in.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I really believe that there is so much that can be learned from our elders.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I always smile when I see a pregnant women or brand new baby, but now that I am professional a apart of the maternal health world I also wonder if she has the support she needs.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Information and resources that they need even when they don't think they need it, as well as positive affirmations.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: The Last Dragon and imitation of life
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Hawaii, although only been once
What is your favorite food?: Vegan Nachos
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: unscheduled
Who lives in your house?: My husband, myself, and our 4 beautiful daughters
