Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Hello! I've been serving the women of New Mexico involved in birth work for 27 years. I have been certified childbirth educator, am a certified labor doula and am now pursuing a 2nd childbirth education certification with ProDoula. I am the director of a doula collective in Albuquerque, New Mexico and a prenatal instructor at a large hospital. I am very excited to add ProDoula certification to my resume.
What led you to become a Doula?: After my first 2 babies and learning so much "on the job" I wanted to share what I had learned with other women and encourage them to be informed and empowered consumers in the birthing world. I had a lot of support for family and friends as I ventured into parenting but I knew everyone did not and I wanted to be there, to come alongside women and offer a helping hand, encouraging words and information to new moms.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“We loved working with Tracy and truly believe that her support and guidance helped us to have a wonderful birth experience.” Maya
“Tracy never put any of her own personal beliefs into her practice or made us feel like we had to do things her way or anyone else’s. She just helped us have the birth we wanted and made sure our wishes were respected. ” Lise
“This class was so fun and I learned so much. I feel so much more prepared for my birth now.” Ashley
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Mama Natural, Spinning Babies, Evidence Based Birth, and Dr. Sears
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Well, a part of me is always a bit jealous as I miss those days of growing a baby and sweet baby smiles! But I also feel a strong sense of contentment that now I am in a place where I can help those folks as they set their feet on this path that I have loved so much.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Confidence. If I can help new parents grow in their confidence so that as they approach birth and parenting, feeling equipped and strong in themselves, then I feel I have done my job.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I am addicted to medical dramas - love me some Grey's Anatomy, Chicago Med and The Resident.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Florida! BEACHES!!
What is your favorite food?: New Mexico green chile and of course, chocolate
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Hmm, a day off would find me puttering around my house contemplating a bit of redecorating or working in my garden, curling up with a good book, indulging in a spot of HGTV with a cup of tea and visiting my married kids and my grandkids.
Who lives in your house?: Myself, my hubby of 33 years and our 2 young adult daughters. Our 4 adult children, their spouses and my 5 grand children all live with in 10 minutes of us. And topped off by one spoiled dog who thinks she's our daughter too!
