Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have experience as a medical transcriptionist, which I think gives me a unique understanding of birth and the terminology sometimes used. I also worked as a phone banker for about 4 years, doing this work I often saw very high and raw emotions. I learned how to be very calming and effective at navigating those emotions and resolving the issues at hand. Also as a mom of 3 I can pull from many life experiences and relate to many moms, and their feelings of birth and motherhood.

What led you to become a Doula?: I have 3 kids, with 3 very different birth experiences, my last being a VBAC. Not knowing what a doula was with my first led to a very rough birth, but having my VBAC was so empowering I wanted to help other moms to feel this empowered.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

I have always been told that I am a great listener and easy to talk to. I am selfless, calming and caring.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I love Birth Without Fear; the stories you can read in her blog, and the information you can find on her page is very empowering and informative. ICAN is a great resource for anyone preparing for a VBAC, or those who would like to know more about cesarean awareness.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Joy, the journey this mom is embarking on is amazing....

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: My silent support, just being that listening person that is willing to help when asked, but there mainly just for her to talk to. She will get tons of peoples advice, and I don't need to give her any, but of all the advice she gets very few will truly listen to what she needs and take care of her needs.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: P.S. I love you is probably my favorite movie. TV shows that I watch regularly would be Bones, NCIS, Blacklist, Call the Midwife... and the list goes on

What is your favorite place to vacation?: I love to go ocean fishing, and spending time at the coast.

What is your favorite food?: Chocolate

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: On the ocean, in our family campground, and just hanging out with my family. I also like to scrapbook, when time allows.

Who lives in your house?: We have a house full; My husband and I have been together since 2001, and married in 2006. We have three amazing kids. We welcomed our first child and only son in May 2009, and then our girls were born in May 2011 and March 2014. We also have 2 dogs, a border collie/ australian cattle dog who is 12, and a black lab who is one. We also have one cat.
