Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am the mother of three beautiful daughters ranging in age from 32 to 14. I am also the proud grandmother of 4 rumbustious grandchildren. I am a woman of faith, compassion, and passion for the beauty of life. I have attended and supported my two oldest daughters in the birth of their children. Over the years I’ve had many wonderful opportunities to attend and support my closest friends as they began their own families. On top of my experience as a mother and grandmother, I have also mentored and empowered women from all walks of life for 18 years through ministries and faith-based organizations.

What led you to become a Doula?: My desire to become a Doula is completely tied to my heart to serve others. I believe the Doula Profession is an honorable profession for women and their families to be partnered with.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

“Veontae is a cheerleader for women and embraces the uniqueness of womanhood. She is a woman of excellence and serves with complete professionalism in all she does. She has a heart to give her very best and passionate about the simple things of life. You can count on her to be present just when you need her the most and she has an uncanny way of knowing exactly what is needed. Her sincerity, her gentle touch, and her love for the sanctity of life makes her the kind of woman you want on your team. She is gifted at making you feel like the most important person in the world.”

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Even though my two oldest are grown and I have a teenager at home, I still love reading the “Parenting Magazine”. The magazine keeps me updated on parenting trends for my grandchildren. I like “BabyCenter” and "Evidence Based Childbirth". I am pretty much a person who likes to see things that have been tried and tested, so that I can support others as they make their choices to apply certain techniques to their own lives.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I believe my thoughts are more credited toward prayers in this case. My prayer would be that a woman receives all the support and love she needs to develop into the mother she desires to be. My prayer would even be that on her worse days she can draw strength from those who surround her and from the beautiful creation she holds in her arms.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: I believe the best gift I can give a new mom would be my support and honesty. I think every woman should have a “Big Sister” in her corner. It is important that women know they have someone in their corner who is willing to ride the wave of childbirth with them and not judge them based on the experience.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: My favorite TV show is “House Hunters” and my favorite movie would have to be “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”.

What is your favorite place to vacation?: My favorite place to vacation is Florida. I love Orlando and St. Augustine.

What is your favorite food?: My favorite food is Shrimp Linguine, but I also love a great Spicy Chicken and Shrimp Fried Rice mix as well.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: My favorite way to spend a day off is to relax by burning my candles, reading a cool book, and relaxing on the patio when the Michigan weather allows for it. I also love watching movies with my husband and teenage daughter.

Who lives in your house?: I am blessed to have my husband and daughter in our home. However, at any given time the grandchildren along with their parents do stop over.
