Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have given birth 3 times, acted as a support to my sister during her 3 births, and supported my sister-in-law during her first birth. Each of the births I have been present at were all so different, I have learned something new at each one. I have always had a passion for pregnancy, birth, babies, and breastfeeding. I will soon be certified as a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist and look forward to expanding my knowledge and trainings!
What led you to become a Doula?: Becoming a mom at such a young age with little to no knowledge or support was very difficult. My first birth was a very traumatic birth. I felt as if I had no support in the way I needed as a new and young mom. With my second birth, I did my own research and discovered that I actually had a voice in how I wanted to bring this bundle of joy into the world. During that pregnancy and birth, something ignited within me. I knew there were so many women that go through one of the most magical times of their lives without the support or knowledge that they deserve. I decided that I wanted to become a source of support and knowledge for women. I went on to coach my sister and my sister-in-law through a total of 4 births and it is something that just lights a fire in my soul!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
That I am;
“kindhearted”, “outgoing”, “free spirited”, “encouraging”, “creative”, “dependable”, “hard working”, “fun!”, “smart”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I enjoy the empowering knowledge that Author/Blogger January Harsh shares on her Podcast ( https://harshe.blog/ ), Instagram account ( https://www.instagram.com/januaryharshe/?hl=en ) and Facebook account ( https://www.facebook.com/birthwithoutfear/ ). She is such an inspiring woman that has and shares so much knowledge on pregnancies, birth, babies, and beyond.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: So precious. Can I smell your baby? How are you adjusting? Can I help you in anyway? Being pregnant and a new mom can be a scary, sometimes lonely time. It is also some of the most exhausting; physical, mental, and emotional times. Just letting a soon-to-be or new Mama know that she is not alone.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Genuine support, a listening ear. A few uninterrupted hours to themselves, with or without baby.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Game of Thrones.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Either the beach or just camping locally.
What is your favorite food?: All of it. (except seafood)
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: With my children, we love to plan an entire day dedicated to a certain park in our area that has so many activities to do, we pack our lunch and just spend the day there. If I am child-less that day, I enjoy just driving around in silence with no destination in mind. Treating myself to a date, with myself.
Who lives in your house?: My husband and I, along with our 5 children and 2 dogs. We have a large, blended family!
