Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I'm a mother of four boys and a military spouse. It takes a lot to get my out of my comfort zone. I'm a certified lactation educator and a certified lactation counselor. I have supported and guided numerous mothers and families to meet their breastfeeding goals or even surpass them. My training through ProDoula made me even more passionate and prepared to help new families with their new arrivals.
What led you to become a Doula?: While I was providing lactation support to new mothers and witnessing their first days into parenthood I felt that the prenatal and labor support was lacking and therefore didn't set them up to be confident parents when they brought their babies home. By becoming a certified doula I can continuously support a family through pregnancy, child birth and post partum. Having a new baby a woman and her family go through many changes emotionally and physically. I am their constant supporter and cheerleader.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
My clients love my calm and collected attitude that follows me from prenatal to labor support and continues during post partum support. My family and friends love my openness to try something new.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Happy Healthy Child. I also like Lamaze classes and prenatal yoga. KellyMom and The Wonder Weeks once the baby is born are my to go resources I point out to new parents.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: If I see a pregnant woman who is pregnant for the first time I want to tell her to not fear labor and motherhood. To trust herself. A brand new mom I want to tell that time will pass so quick and try to enjoy the early days.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Trust in yourself. My patience and my unconditional support. Her goal is my goal. Even if it changes though pregnancy, labor and beyond.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Dead Poet Society - my guilty pleasure is 48 hours.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Hawaiian Islands and Europe
What is your favorite food?: Poke, Sushi is a close second. But a meal without a chocolate dessert just isn't quiet finished.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Starting my day with a sunrise hike along with my friends followed by a day on the beach watching my children play.
Who lives in your house?: My husband, our four boys and myself.
