Prior to postpartum support, my experience includes assisting with a birth, living with a pregnant sister, and providing her with extensive support during her postpartum period. Additionally, I have helped friends and family with their newborns, further enhancing my understanding of postpartum care.
My journey to becoming a doula was ignited by my deep love for family, community, and my twin sister. As she experienced her first pregnancy—the first baby in our family—I was concluding my career as a cook in the Army, stationed overseas. During her pregnancy, I found myself reflecting on the growing movement of home births, the vital role of doulas, and the communities that rally around expecting and postpartum families. It became clear to me that this was a path I was meant to pursue.
In the final weeks of her pregnancy, I lived with my sister, supporting her through every moment—from acting as her birth doula in the hospital to helping unpack her hospital bag during those early nights at home. It was then that I realized this was my calling. I completed my training just a month later and have embraced my role ever since. Being a doula means so much to me—it's about being “a woman who serves.”
I chose postpartum support for the set hours and the ability to still stay home with my babies during the day.
I have received positive feedback from others highlighting my passion, competence, and confidence. People often describe me as sweet and caring, noting my ability to make others feel comfortable and at home. Additionally, I am recognized for being attuned to the feelings and emotions of those around me. Others would also comment on my motherly abilities and my faith centered perspective.
