Meet Your ProDoula
Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I've done early childhood education, and ample volunteer work with children-- but nothing compares to being a woman and being able to empathize, and knowing how to love. Those 3 things alone are what I believe are beneficial to birth work.
What led you to become a Doula?: I've always been fascinated with pregnancy. As a little girl I was the one walking around with a ball up my shirt "pretending" to be a "mommy". I gained a love for children early when I had the option at age 13 to start volunteering with my local special needs children's program in my school at the time. From there I continued with volunteer work through age 16 with my neighborhood daycare via a program partnered with my high school. There were always opportunities for me to work with kids and I knew they were my passion. I was also a Teacher's Aide for sometime for Pre-K aged children. It took becoming a mom and being pregnant myself to take an interest in birth work and the needs of the very people who bring these children into the world. My need for support and not having it in one of the most vulnerable and helpless feeling times in my life made me find a whole new love and respect for the needs of pregnant people. I know what it's like to feel fear, anxiety, abandonment, excitement, uncertainty, bliss, serenity, and all things in-between that come with pregnancy and birth and I'm here to let other BAD ASS BIRTHERS KNOW-- WE CAN DO THIS!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Most people would say I have a contagious energy– They would say I love to uplift and encourage and above all things I genuinely care. They would say that Im passionate about my message. They would say I’m reliable and not just physically– I’m mentally and emotionally reliable as well. No matter what time of day it is if my loved ones need me they know they can call me and I will leave them feeling better than before they picked up the phone. Most people would say I’m one of a kind and that if ever they need someone to love and support them I’m their woman.
