Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been in the healthcare field over 13 years as an occupational therapist now Doula. I now offer in-home OT functional movement assessments to help pregnant people learn how to better manage with swelling, injury, aches, pains, and learn how to move better in their daily living with more ease and independence; this can also be especially helpful as a prepare for cesarean home consult (2-3 hours). Also am currently offering: private and some group classes for newborn care, childbirth classes & more. I am labor doula, certified educator, and postpartum & infant care doula (mostly overnights for postpartum).

What led you to become a Doula?: I labored for couple days with both kids and led to cesarean and some postpartum difficulties but I had such an educated, empowering, & positive experience despite things not going as I had hoped, all because my husband & I felt fully supported by our doulas. I wanted to give this support back to Parents in my community and spread awareness of how doula support can have such positive impacts on births and on the postpartum period. I also experienced 11 years as a rehab OT doing massage, reiki, meditation, visualizations, exercises, stretches, injury prevention work, and physically giving hands on support as well as emotional support. As a therapist I was also always watching out for mental health needs for each parent, helping them develop plans, goals, self care, work-life balance, work ergonomics and more. I was use to years of teaching people how to cope with any upper or lower body pain, and taught them how to adapt activities to manage daily living skills. I’m excited to spread my knowledge to my pregnant clients so they can learn how to apply this functional movement knowledge in prep for surgery or for labor prep, or even prep for their postpartum recovery from vaginal or cesarean birth. And lastly getting people all the resources they need to be successful and thrive as a family.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

Loved by clients & hospital staff because of my calming presence, Knowledge base as well as great communication skills. I go above and beyond for each client and make the family feel fully supported, fully prepared, & confident.
