Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Alexis Christine Wild is a certified professional doula serving growing families in London, Ontario, through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. She also provides childbirth education both in person and online, as well as a unique Doula in Your Pocket virtual support program and Birth:Mansplained, a childbirth education class for dads.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have always been the person to drop off a hot meal when life is hectic, and supporting people during the transition times of life is a true honour. In 2014, I certified as a Sacred Pregnancy Instructor. I added Holistic Massage training to my skills shortly afterwards, and then came full circle to become a doula. I’m also trained in laughter yoga, reiki, and social work… anything that I feel curious about, I go for! I’m not your pink and blue, cutesy doula booking you in for one prenatal visit, one birth, one postpartum visit. You hire me… I’m yours. I provide decadent, over the top support to remind you of your power, your knowledge, your beauty; and I’m going to give you everything I’ve got! I’m your wild, cheering you on the at top of my lungs, holding your hair back while you puke, calling your bullshit doula. I know you can do this... and you CAN!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“It was so helpful for us and we appreciate your time, guidance and support. My husband said he liked it and it’s good stuff to know as he feels more ready than before and I agree. You’re a great teacher!” Dara + Tyler
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I am a fan of anything that starts the conversation with TRUST. Trusting our bodies, trusting our intuition, trusting our babies. Birthing from Within and Indie Birth are my go-tos when I need a reminder of why I do what I do! The Business of Being Born was also an eye opening resource when I was pregnant with my first baby in 2010 - it's a must watch!
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: You are doing a great job. You are the perfect parent for this baby. Your baby loves you so much. You've got this!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The very best gift that I can give new parents as a birth worker is a big giant does of confidence in their abilities! I encourage them to always trust themselves, because trust is the cornerstone to an amazing birth and postpartum!
