Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Although I have been a Radiologic Technologist for the past twenty-years, my true passion has always been to become a birth doula. This dream was first realized when I gave birth to my first son. In the hours leading up to his birth, I was blessed to have had a guiding hand. The person who was by my side encouraged, calmed and motivated me. That in turn gave me confidence in my body and in my abilities, and it was in those moments that I felt truly validated and empowered. It was only through the births of my second and third sons that I realized how truly imperative it is to have that support and guidance, as their births were vastly different without it.
What led you to become a Doula?:
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Many people say that I’m strong but sensitive, and I agree with that. I’m really a huge nurturer and have always been someone that likes to get to the bottom of things and find solutions to problems.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Evidence Based Birth is amazing, but for hands on resources, nothing beats asking a fellow doula for input.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I'm excited for them!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Support and encouragement! I remember being a new mother with very little support as far as what to expect from my body and my emotions, and it was a pretty challenging time for me. I'd love to help someone else navigate that time in their lives.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Little Miss Sunshine
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Anyplace that has an ocean nearby!
What is your favorite food?: Italian, unfortunately (those carbs!!)
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I used to be the "can't sit down girl", but nowadays I like to spend a quiet day around the house with my wife.
Who lives in your house?: My wife and I.
