Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I'm a mom- I've had three very different birth experiences (hospital, miscarriage and birth center) and I've fed two babies in very different ways. I'm passionate about offering the support and information my clients need to help them have the tools they need to achieve their best birth.
What led you to become a Doula?: My desire to leave birth better than I found it.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Barbara is a very experienced and knowledgeable doula. She is professional, dependable and a pleasure to work alongside. I work with many doulas and Barbara is someone that I recommend over and over and I trust her to give excellent care to my patients.”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Evidence Based Birth and Cochrane Library are my go-tos for evidence based information. The WonderWeeks app is fantastic and I love the humor and sarcasm that Baby Rabies and Bunmi Laditan serves up.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: My first thought is, "Awe, a sweet baby!" Then, I remember what it was like when I was a new mom and sure hope that family is getting all the support they need!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Support! Sometimes, just having someone that *gets it* makes all the difference in the world.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I don't have much time for television, but I'm a sucker for old Patrick Swayze movies!
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Anywhere with some history- I love old buildings, architecture and places with a story to tell.
What is your favorite food?: Mexican food, hands down. Add in a good margarita and I'm a happy gal!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: A warm, sunny day at the lake on a blanket with a good book.
Who lives in your house?: My hubby and best friend Thomas, our two kiddos and Luc the wiener-dog and our two cats, Nora and Vibe.
