Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Camille is a born and raised Oregonian. She has a bachelor's degree in Global Studies with a concentration in Development and Social Justice. She has a minor in Hispanic Studies and is bilingual in English and Spanish. After graduating she served in Peace Corps Guatemala as a Healthy Schools Coordinator, supporting the primary schools with developing their health curriculum. Throughout her education Camille has also had the opportunity to study health in Oaxaca, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago. After returning from the Peace Corps she became an Outreach Specialist for a local organization in Oregon that provides housing and homeless services. This work propelled Camille forward in her passion for health equity, social justice, and being a compassionate, nurturing individual in the world. She is currently working at a Community Care Organization that helps to connect OHP members to providers. Working in the early learning hub of the organization, Camille has seen the need for supporting pregnant people and families with young children. She lives in McMinnville, Oregon with her loving husband.
What led you to become a Doula?: Throughout her educational and professional experiences, Camille saw a great need for support during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period for families in her community. After experiencing her own loss during a miscarriage she began diving into books, documentaries, and online resources to learn more about fertility and all things pregnancy. Initially it was for her own knowledge, but it quickly sparked a desire in her to pursue doula work.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Camille is a wonderful person who always puts the people she cares for first. You can really tell that she is listening to you and your needs while talking with her. She has always been a strong advocate for those around her whether it is her friends, family or clients. Camille is very driven and thoughtful. Due to her long term interest in both pregnancy and birth, becoming a doula who can support mother’s from pregnancy to early motherhood was clearly a natural fit. She is the perfect balance of warm kindness and strength.” -Camilla Sumner
“To know Camille is simply a gift from the universe you didn’t know you needed. It is easy to say someone is kind or strong or comforting, but it’s life changing to experience someone who is all of those and more. Camille has prevailed several life-altering experiences- more than anyone should ever have to. Her understanding of faith and compassion in the deepest times is moving. Her heart overflows for anyone and everyone.Whether you need a contagious giggle to light up the room or a deep conversation to soothe your soul, she is the warrior woman for the experience. One of the greatest reasons I love Camille so dearly is her sense of joy. The joy she protrudes, the joy she gives, the joy she receives, the joy she so warmingly expresses- you can’t help but feel at peace. She is strong. She is fierce, she is driven and capable of anything set in front of her. I am so fortunate to have learned and grown with her by my side in all walks of life.” -Nora Angus
